Universitatea Nationala De Stiintasi Tehnologie Politehnica Bucuresti
National University of Science and Technology Politehnica din Bucuresti (UPB), and specifically the MicroDERLab research group (member of DERLAB network since 2013), seeks to promote a common research agenda on electrical engineering topics focusing measurements and instrumentation for faster deployment of intelligent grids of the future, developing and implementing innovative energy management systems for DC networks. One of MicroDERLab’s main objectives is to design holistic solutions to support visionary energy policies and regulatory frameworks, embracing cutting-edge technology integrating digital twin capabilities for enhanced protection and control for hybrid microgrid systems. MicroDERLab team is involved in (i) standardization (IEC, IEEE), including on LVDC, (ii) European and international initiatives regarding efficient integration of RES-based electricity in flexible networks (DC or hybrid microgrids) and, (iii) application of Medium Voltage DC (MVDC) for interconnecting microgrids, aiming to redefine the landscape of hybrid energy distribution. MicroDERLab interdisciplinary team focuses on advancing hybrid AC/DC systems, with emphasis on interoperability, stability, and sector coupling modelling. Innovation topics extend to exploring flexible architectures and dynamic market pricing schemes, placing UPB R&D activities in the core of stable and interoperable hybrid energy systems towards the evolution of sustainable energy infrastructure. In the project, UPB focus on modelling and simulating selected use-cases and scenarios, deriving the requirements and technical specifications for the CL device.
Silicon Austria Labs GmbH
Component design and fabrication is conducted by Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), a non-university public research center for electronic based systems with a focus on applied research and the aim to bridge the gap between research and industrial application. SAL contributes to the research and innovation success of this project through its years-long expertise in microsystems design and clean room fabrications, and in simulating and modeling micro- and nano-scale phenomena, in particular magnetism, thermal effects, and electric transport. Within Novetrol, SAL will design and fabricate the EMR components that will be integrated within a magnetic field generator to form a current limiter. SAL interdisciplinary team will conduct design, simulation, microfabrication, assembly and characterization. To do so, SAL will be supported by its state-of-the-art ISO5 clean room environment, its magnetic characterization lab, as well as their own magnetic simulation software (Magpylib), and commercial finite difference / finite element products (Mumax3, ANSYS, and COMSOL).
Icpe Actel Sa
ICPE ACTEL (ACT) validates proof-of-concept device experimentally, based on its 70-years of experience in electric drives and automation. ACT designs, manufactures, and commissions low voltage electrical equipment based on power electronics, and provides products and services for national and international customers. Specific applications include electric drives, power management, MCC, automation, UPS, AC & DC power supplies and distribution for power plants, offshore and land drilling rigs, pumping stations, railways, telekom, industry.
Eaton Elektrotechnika Sro
The system designed and testing is driven by Eaton (EAT), through its Eaton Research Lab team in Prague, Czech Republic. EAT, as a multinational company, is deeply involved in technology development projects aimed at the Energy Transition. The corporate research team in Prague contributes to DC power system technology development, integrating local generation and storage, as well as EV charging infrastructure. In NOVETROL, EAT will develop the CL device, integrating the EMR devices and additional subsystems, for current detection and triggering and for generating the magnetic field. The device is tested in the DC power system lab in Prague, using the installed building DC microgrid, PV, and battery storage, in power flow management and energy consumption optimization scenarios.
